Like many of my other newspaper mosaic pieces, Frida Kahlo’s ‘Broken Column’ took me several years to complete- five, in fact! I started her in 2017 and completed her in 2022…
If I add up the amount of time spent actually working on this piece, I think it would total about 6 months. But several years-long gaps in between sessions are what caused the 5 year start-to-finish timeline.
I’ll come back and write more about the process in a lengthier blog post, and go in to why those gaps happened, but I am just so thrilled to have the piece completed and to a standard I am very happy with. I once again had the team at Artworks Fine Art Publishing take a quality digital capture so that each and every detail comes through on the prints.
Speaking of prints, I also had them make a small run of giclée 11″x14″ prints, which are approximately half the size of the original. The tiniest text is still legible and I am over the moon with how lovely they look!
They come with a 1.5″ border so that you have options when you go to frame it. Obviously you should choose one to suit your taste and décor, but if I had my way, she’d always be framed in a chunky gold or light wood frame.
